Signs of Aging That You Shouldn't Ignore

Signs of aging in place are plentiful. They're everywhere - from skin wrinkles to sagging eyelids, to hair thinning or loss - but that doesn't mean we should take them too seriously. In fact, many of us don't even realize what's happening inside of our bodies at any given moment. That's why it's important to understand aging in place, how it progresses, and how it affects our future health.

Signs of aging in place are really the accumulation of oxidants. Yes, free radicals are a real thing, and you're born with them every single minute of your life. But in our modern, hectic lives, free radicals are allowed to grow unchecked, causing a whole host of signs of aging. The more oxidants we have floating around, the harder it is for us to avoid the appearance of the aging signs.

If you've already started to see signs of aging like dry skin and wrinkles, then you're on the path to developing more oxidants in your system. As we age, there's a natural tendency for our skin to become drier and thinner, our blood vessels to constrict, and our cognitive ability to function to decline. Because of this, aging in place begins when there's an increase of oxidants-and if you've already started to see signs of dementia, then you may already have a serious case of oxidative stress. Now, even though oxidation itself isn't a disease in itself - oxidants are actually necessary for healthy functioning - but they can cause all kinds of problems if they get out of control. That's why you usually get thinner as you age if you're struggling with too much oxidative stress.

Hyaluronic acid is a compound that's typically present in younger, more youthful people, but as you age, it becomes less abundant in your skin and joints, which is why you start to experience a number of signs of aging, too. One of the most noticeable things is dryness, especially in the skin. When our hyaluronic acid levels decrease, the aging process starts. By helping to keep our skin moist and elastic, elastin and collagen are also important for fighting off oxidative stress, so even though hyaluronic acid is a powerful antioxidant, the decrease in its presence makes things harder for your body to fight off free radicals.

Another thing that causes aging in place is sunlight. As we get older, the amount of sun we receive becomes smaller, so we end up developing wrinkles and sagging skin as a result. The reason is that the chemicals in the sun are drying to our skin, so our bodies respond by producing more moisture from our fat. One way that manufacturers have tried to combat this problem is to include" sunscreen" or "free radicals blockers" into their products, which are supposed to help prevent oxidative stress. While it's true that some antioxidants can lower the rate of aging, many of these products are ineffective, or they're not designed very well, which means that many of them will do little more than temporarily remove dryness from the skin.

So what can you do to fight off these signs of aging? Using skincare products with all-natural ingredients is always a good idea. Instead of trying to cover up wrinkles, you should be trying to fix the underlying causes of aging. And there are some proven ways to do just that. By making sure that you don't stay out in the sun all day (which increases your risk of developing wrinkles), by drinking plenty of water and using quality facial creams, you can drastically reduce the signs of aging on your skin.
